Buggy Jumping On the Weekend

Well I have been wanting to get in to the air off the flat and level for some time now and I cracked it on the weekend (with out cracking my ugly head open) the wind was a steady 15 knots or near enough, using a Phantom 16 mt on a harness and a seat belt to keep the landing gear underneath me for the landings.

Hear is a small clip as proof

Disclaimer: Kids power kiting and power kite activities are completely safe and there is no possible way you can hurt or kill maim or other wise injure yourself or other innocent bystanders by trying this yourself at home.

(Note if u believe this then u r very stupid and deserve to hurt, kill, maim or injure your self and the laws of Darwin should apply.)

Hi Murray,

Great vid - I've got a couple of questions about the jump, as I've thought about trying this at some stage.

To get the lift do you just fly the kite up as fast as you can? I've tried this with C-Quads but I just end up sliding the buggy.

I've got a 12m F-ARC (similar to the Phantom?) so I thought about trying it with that and my PL Comp buggy, rather than a bigfoot as the Comp is lighter.

Any thoughts or comments?

Cheers JB

Hi JB

Craig hear I will e mail u my phone number and we can talk.

But a breif description, there two types of jump a long not so high but fast like the vid,

and the bunny hop high and a brutal landing.

First thing u need to be over powerd so big kite scary but nessary.

All jumps are achieved by getting the kite in behind you under power and depending on where it is in the power window you will hop or fly.

If u leave it in the power and far behind, you will hop up untill you stop and the kite comes to the zenith, then it is a one way trip down. (Brutal)

If u let it cruse up over your head you get a long floaty one not as high and the landing less brutal. (as in the vid).

You can just about hop straight off the ground if u have enough power. Hold the bugy side on to the power zone and do like you would to kite jump and it will pick u and the buggy up.

I am using the big foot as I am 100 kg and tend to bend the little ones on landing, also the big tyers soak up some of the landing impact. (helps with the bunnie hops I run them at 5 pounds).

Morena!
I'm a physical training instructor at the RNZAF Base over in Blenheim. I've been perusing through all the outdoor entertainments in Nelson trying to find something new to offer to our trainees for the big end of year Sports event that we hold anuually here in Blenheim.I saw your Web page and it looks awesome!
I was wondering what the likelyhood of us having you and your kite buggies here for a few hours on base would be? Would it be possible for us to maybe have a few races or is this difficult to master and a risk to your equipment?
We have a fairly limited budget but for such a great activity I may be able to get some funding for your services. For you consideration.
Love to hear from you.

Hi there,

If you're into buggy jumping, you may like to know that Rob Hills, the legendary UK buggy jumper is heading in your direction for 6 months in a couple of weeks time... He's heading out to work at one of the Christchurch kiteshops for the duration of the British winter... lucky boy! If you're around go see him in action, he's awesome ;-)
